The World Setting of Paint Gear
By the mid-21st century, humanity's spirit of exploration had ventured into increasingly harsh environments. Specialized exploration vehicles were active in various locations, including Mars, the deep sea, and underground. Responsible for repairing and repainting the exteriors of these exploration vehicles operating in such harsh environments was the Extreme Environments Remote Gear Series (commonly known as the EX Gear Series). This series achieved cost reduction, efficiency, and versatility through the adoption of universal standards.

These are tools (gear) that perform repairs, maintenance, and painting** on damaged parts via remote operation from inside the exploration vehicle or from an external command room, aided by AI. They come in various sizes and appearances, depending on their purpose, and are broadly categorized into Maintenance Gear, Repair Gear, and Paint Gear. While each is specialized for specific tasks, such as external repairs, modifications, or upgrades, some units possess multiple functions.

Paint Gear, as the name suggests, is the EX Gear used to repaint exploration vehicles when their paint chips or peels during operations.
The Paint Gear [Gaia Type] is a humanoid painting gear developed by Moonscore, a company leading Japan in robotics, with an emphasis on versatility. It can paint not only in extreme environments but also on structures like skyscrapers and hydroelectric turbine blades. At its center is a component shaped like the cap of Gaia Colors, the plastic model paint series by paint manufacturer Gaia Notes. This cap is actually a replaceable battery. Developed jointly with Gaia Notes for specialized coatings, the Gaia Color cap shape itself was adopted as the battery. The latest high-efficiency, high-capacity fluoride-ion battery can be charged while attached. For prolonged operations, swapping batteries allows immediate resumption of work. While an engine resembling an internal combustion engine is visible on the back, it is a dummy; the unit is actually 100% electric. For fun, it reproduces the sound and vibration of a 1.5-liter V6 engine as it starts up. The initial design was 720mm long; however, various sizes are available to suit different applications. By striking a balance between practicality and a friendly appearance, it has become widely recognized.
